Mirador Park María Sagredo

It dates back to 1570, when some 600 men led by El Yebali and Lorenzo Alfaqui from Ronda disguised themselves as Castilians and came to Alozaina with the intention of taking possession of it, land where only women, old men and children were to be found, as its inhabitants had gone to harvest.

As the story goes, there were only 7 men left, who led by Ginés Martín, managed to break through the ranks of the rebels, together with the women and children disguised with the monteras, the capacetes and the capes of the men, pretending that there was a large garrison. This plan helped them to withstand 3 assaults, although they suffered several casualties. In the third assault, the Moors fired mercilessly against the castle, seriously wounding the elderly Martín Sagredo -or Lagredo- Domínguez.

Maria Sagredo, seeing her father’s blood on the ground, decided to climb the keep and fiercely defend the fortress, throwing beehives at the enemy and giving the lead to the neighbors, who returned to the attack and managed to drive the enemy from the lands of Alozaina.

The intelligence that was applied at the moment of deceiving the Moorish troops, and the incredible courage emanated by María Sagredo when defending the town of Alozaina, are words that are felt in the air of the Torreón.
